Kind of a shame that this mall was demolished IRL after the movie wrapped.

I wanted to like this movie more, and it's well done for the most part. But you just can't remake Dawn of the Dead. It's like remaking Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark or any Cory Haim film*. It's just gospel, man.

*-for example, "Lucas"

I think this movie finally turned me into one of those "Romero is God" people. At least I should thank it for that. And maybe for dramatically depicting the dangers of operating a chainsaw in a moving vehicle. Otherwise, oof.

Old screenwriting trick:

Have one of the characters mention how dumb the plot is in order to help gloss over how dumb the plot is:

"so your telling me where gonna leave the safety of this mall to go hunting for this island that could also be swarming with zombies?"

Er, yeah, Cause the screenwriter got stuck and didn't know how else to up the tension, thus making the whole mall plot point completely moot.
