Yep, this was TWILIGHT long before TWILIGHT was but a ripped-off idea in the heart of a young mormon lass.

And to this day It's still one of the finest American-made vampire pictures of all time.

Although there's really only about three of those.

1. Look, it's the movie Twilight ripped off!

2. Hard to believe: The director of this movie (Kathryn Bigelow) is the odds-on-favorite to win Best Director at this year's Oscars (The Hurt Locker)

3. Apparently a "Near Dark" remake is in production, at least according to imdb.com.

Well, I think comparisons to Twilight miiiiiight be fair, but I seriously doubt Stephenie Meyer saw ANY vampire movies before she wrote her book- especially not anything as violent as Near Dark.

Ha. If anything, I think they're trying to lure the Twilight crowd into checking out Near Dark. EVERYTHING is getting tied into Twilight now- even Wuthering fucking Heights.

Have you see the 1990 hit Class of 1999? I just watched it last night and it has an appearance from the little lisping kid from Near Dark. Awesome! Here's the breakdown: In the near future gang violence terrorizes the nation's high schools, so one Seattle school hires ex-military robots to keep the kids under control. Kind of a Robocob meets Dangerous Minds deal.
